Billericay Police Station

Project Name

Billericay Police Station was converted by CG Interiors to conform to the Disability Discrimination Act. We removed the existing ramp, front entrance steps, entrance doors and public counter. We converted the existing office, formed a new disabled toilet facility along with other internal office alterations to assist disabled persons accessibility.

This waste land site was acquired in July 2007 with the possibility of planning a new build office and warehouse construction. We assisted the clients in obtaining planning permission and with appointment of the lead architect.

CG Interiors were originally commissioned to carry out the soft strip demolitions and builders work on the existing building. Additional work packages included: - roofing, flooring, new internal block work walls, suspended ceilings, plastering, painting and decorating, structural openings for a new lift installation and new services including the renewal of major plant on the roof were also undertaken.

New Asbestos Regulations

On Monday 13 November, the New Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 were published with the majority of the legislation coming into force.

The new legislation makes a number of changes and replaces three sets of existing legislation including: The Asbestos (Prohibitions) Regulations 1992, The Asbestos Licensing Regulations 1993 and The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002.

Some of the changes involve the following:

  • Work with textured decorative coatings containing asbestos will be removed from the licensing regime as research shows that the level of exposure to asbestos fibres from such work are low;
  • The introduction to a lower single control limit of 0.1 fibres per cm3 of air for work with all types of asbestos;
  • All organisations or individuals carrying out the 4-Stage Asbestos Clearance and Certificate of Re-Occupation after asbestos removal works are to be accredited for that process by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (currently the only UK accreditation body for the 4-Stage Clearance); and
  • The requirement of mandatory training for work with asbestos.
  • •Practical guidelines for the determination of "sporadic and low intensity exposure", as required by the EU directive;

Although most of the new regulations came into force on the Monday the regulation that requires accreditation for 4 stage clearance will not come into force until 6 April 2007.
